The pancreas is a small organ that sits behind the stomach, aiding in digestion and regulating blood-sugar levels by the production of hormones like insulin. Pancreatitis is a condition where the pancreas becomes inflamed and its essential functions are impaired. Pancreatitis is usually the result of another condition such as gallstones, overconsumption of alcohol, obesity or diabetes, but may occasionally develop without cause.

There are several cannabinoids that, due to their anti-inflammatory activity and ability to regulate metabolic disorders, may prove useful for pancreatitis. CBD, CBG, THCV and beta-caryophyllene may be of particular interest. However, it is wise to be cautious, as in rare instances cannabis use may cause acute pancreatitis.
