Cannabis for Cerebral Palsy (CP) and Similar Conditions

Cerebral palsy (CP) is a group of disorders that affect a person’s ability to move and maintain balance and posture. It usually develops before, during or after birth, and symptoms not necessarily becoming visible for the first 2 or 3 years of the child’s life. Symptoms include development delays such as not sitting or walking by 8 or 18 months, walking on tiptoes and weak arms or legs, amongst many others.

Research into the use of medical cannabis for cerebral palsy is still limited, but there is some promising evidence that it is useful for the treatment of chronic pain, muscle spasms and spastic quadriplegia associated with CP.
