Sepsis, sometimes called septicaemia or blood poisoning, is an overreaction of the immune system to an infection. This causes damage to your body’s own tissues and organs. There are three stages of sepsis: sepsis, severe sepsis, and septic shock (the most life-threatening form, and has a mortality rate of 40% – 60%). An infection (especially a superbug infection), compromised immune system, diabetes, organ transplant, or kidney or liver disease are all risk factors for developing sepsis.

There is some promising research surrounding cannabis as a treatment for sepsis. CBD and CBG could potentially be used as antibiotics, which have the added advantage of superbugs not having developed a resistance to it. THC, CBD and CBN could be useful in battling inflammation associated with sepsis as well.
