Strawberry Lemonade

Developed by Barney’s Farm from a cross between the famous Strawberry Cough and Sour Lemon OG strains, Strawberry Lemonade is a balanced hybrid of 50% sativa and 50% indica. The strain’s THC content ranges between 18%-28% with low CBD and produces intense cerebral highs followed by bodily relaxation. Strawberry Lemonade may help manage anxiety, depression, and PTSD when dosed appropriately.

During the initial high, users often feel a burst of energy, which can be an excellent opportunity to work or play before the relaxing effects kick in. The late-onset relaxing effects mean that Strawberry Lemonade is considered to be best suited for use in the late afternoon or evening rather than in the morning. However, the effects of any cannabis strain (cultivar) can differ from person-to-person, so take these descriptions for the anecdotal reports they are.

Strawberry Lemonade flowers release an earthy strawberry scent with undertones of fresh citrus fruits when adequately cured. Grinding the nuggets releases a dank, hash-like odor similar to that of OG Kush. The smoke has been described as smooth and easily palatable, with a sweet flavor during exhalation.

Strawberry Lemonade won best sativa concentrate at the 2015 High Times Cannabis Cup awards in Denver, Colorado.

Effects

Strawberry Lemonades has been reported to have the following effects:

  • Focus
  • Energizing
  • Giggly
  • Uplifting
  • Calm

The following adverse effects have also been reported:

  • Dry Eyes
  • Paranoia
  • Anxiety
  • Dry Mouth

Dry mouth and dry eyes are common adverse effects of cannabis use. Luckily these side effects are relatively minor and can be alleviated by staying hydrated and using eye drops if needed.

Some users of Strawberry Lemonade have reported that it can cause anxiety and/or paranoia. This may be related to the relatively high THC content that can be found in this strain of cannabis.

One way THC may trigger anxiety or paranoia is by binding to receptors in the amygdala, a part of the brain that detects danger in the environment. Inappropriate activation of these receptors may cause you to feel like you are in danger when you aren’t really. If you experience anxiety or paranoia after consuming cannabis, you may want to try reducing your dose or switching to a strain with a lower THC content.

Medical Applications

Medicinally, Strawberry Lemonade strain has been reported to help alleviate stress and depression, as well as provide some relief from physical pain, headaches, and fatigue. Some people with ADHD have also reported benefitting from this strain's enhanced mental focusing effects. People with PTSD and PMS may also benefit from using the Strawberry Lemonade strain. Because it can induce paranoia, however, it is not recommended for people with paranoid tendencies.

Growing

Unfortunately for those wanting to grow their own Strawberry Lemonade, seeds are difficult to acquire. The best method for growing is to use cuttings of existing healthy plants to create your clones. In states where medical cannabis cultivation is permitted, dispensaries may sell clones from specific, popular cannabis varieties. Such an option can be ideal for beginner growers as it shortens growing time by cutting out the vegetative period, allowing the plant to go straight into a 12-12 light-dark cycle.

Once cuttings have been obtained, the plants are relatively easy to grow and are resistant to common types of mold and mildew. Strawberry Lemonade can be grown indoors or outdoors, and indoor yields an average of 18 ounces (510 grams) for every 10.7 square feet,  and outdoor plants yield an average of 14 ounces (396 grams) per plant.

The small to medium-sized flowers stick together in clusters reminiscent of cauliflower heads. Strawberry Lemonade buds are dense and indica-like, with small, tightly coiled, light green leaves. These are interspersed with orange and brown colored pistols. The trichomes have a cloudy white appearance, making the flowers look white when viewed from far away.

Height

Strawberry Lemonade plants grow to 4 to 5 feet (122-152 centimeters) and may need to be topped if you’re growing them in a confined space. Topping involves pruning the top part off the end of the plant’s main stem to prevent further vertical growth, which also encourages the growth of the lateral branches, making the plant shorter and bushier overall.

Humidity and Temperature

Strawberry Lemonade prefers semi-humid climates with temperatures between 70 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit or 21 to 26 degrees Celsius.

Flowering

Strawberry Lemonade has a flowering time of nine to 10 weeks when grown indoors. If grown outdoors, it should be ready for harvest in late October.
