Snowman

Snowman is a sativa-dominant strain (cultivar) of cannabis with high THC levels between 23 and 27% and minimal levels of CBD. It was developed from the classic Girl Scout Cookies (GSC) strain and is generally 70% sativa and 30% indica. It has been reported to produce long-lasting euphoric, uplifting effects and relieve stress and anxiety.

Snowman is a newer hybrid strain, so little information is available about it compared to older strains. However, many of its properties are similar to those of GSC. To complicate matters, two variations of Snowman exist, one developed by Berners and one by Emerald Family farms. It’s unknown which variation was created.

Snowman was named for its frosty appearance due to its large number of trichomes, which make the plant look like it’s covered in snow. It also possesses burnt orange pistils.

Snowman has a sweet vanilla and diesel aroma that some have described as “gassy kush.” Luckily it tastes a lot sweeter than it smells, with users reporting fruity flavors like apple, citrus, and apricot, as well as nutmeg, spicy herb, and lingering vanilla.

Effects

Snowmans has been reported to have the following effects:

  • Relaxed
  • Focus
  • Cerebral
  • Energy
  • Hunger

The following adverse effects have also been reported:

  • Dry Eyes
  • Dizziness
  • Dry Mouth
  • Rapid Heartbeat

Dry mouth and dry, reddened eyes are the most common adverse effects reported by cannabis users. These effects are thought to be due to suppressed activity of lacrimal (tear) glands and salivary glands brought on by interactions between THC and CBD and their corresponding CB1 and CB2 receptors (cells that take up the chemicals) in those glands. Fortunately, these side effects are relatively minor and can be alleviated by staying hydrated and eye drops if needed.

Dizziness and increased heart rate are among the most common adverse effects reported by new cannabis users. It’s likely due to interactions between the THC and receptors of the endocannabinoid system (ECS), which are involved in regulating blood pressure. However, other kinds of receptors may also be involved.

Medical Applications

Due to its effects, it could help manage and treat the following:

Headache & Migraine

Cannabinoids’ ability to modulate serotonin receptor transmission can help relieve anxiety, depression, nausea, migraines, and headaches.

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS)

Terpenes like limonene can have uplifting effects. There is some suggestion that Snowman can start off more uplifting and end more sedative, especially as more is used over the course of the day.

Growing

Snowman grows similarly to its parent strain Girl Scout Cookies. It can be grown indoors or outdoors, and indoor yields average 1-2 ounces per square foot, and outdoor yields average 18 ounces per plant.

Due to its large, dense buds, Snowman needs regular pruning. This increases airflow and light through the leaves and reduces the risk of mold and mildew developing.

Finding seed stock or clones of Berner’s Snowman can be difficult as not many seed banks or nurseries have it in stock. Other strains may sometimes be mislabeled as Snowman, especially when ordering from a less reputable source.
