Non-Hodgkin lymphoma is a type of cancer that begins in the lymphatic system, which is a major part of the body’s germ-fighting immune system. In non-Hodgkin lymphoma, white blood cells (lymphocytes) grow abnormally and form growths (tumors) throughout the body. The cause of non-Hodgkin lymphoma is unknown, but those with a weakened immune system are more likely to develop it.
When it comes to cancers of the blood and immune system, cannabis seems to be quite an effective treatment. One animal study shows that a mixture of chemotherapy and cannabinoids increased apoptosis of cancer cells. There are also reports of cannabis helping Hodgkin lymphoma patients relieve the negative effects of chemotherapy treatment, such as chronic pain, nausea and appetite loss. More clinical trials are needed for non-Hodgkin lymphoma patients.
