Headband

Headband, commonly known as HB, is a hybrid marijuana strain (cultivar). Headband has been reported as having euphoric, uplifting, and stimulating effects, with some even finding a boost in creativity. This means that Headband may help manage stress, fatigue, and depression.

A cross between the famous staple strains OG Kush and Sour Diesel, the parents have passed on their high THC content to Headband, which can reach a THC level of 27%. Some suggest that Master Kush is one of Headband’s parents as well.

HB is known for its creaminess and lemon and diesel flavors. Celebrated for its relaxation, stress, and pain relief effects, it is a favorite among cannabis users.

HB is a potent strain: The strain’s THC content is 27%, with little-to-no CBD. It’s a well-balanced, indica-dominated (55%-60%) hybrid.

Some users experience pressure feeling around the top of their heads, which may feel like a headband. This is where the strain gets its name.

Because the THC levels in this strain are so high, it produces a sensation of pressure on the temples. This is because it dilates the blood vessels in the face, and THC is therefore considered a vasodilator.

Some believe Headband was created by Reserva Privada, a breeder from Colorado known for creating extremely popular strains like Kandy Kush and Strawberry Banana. Others believe the headband strain originates in Humboldt County, part of the well-known Emerald Triangle.

Be sure to pace yourself, as the effects of HB can take some time to kick in.

Terpenes

Terpenes, found in trace amounts in cannabis, are responsible for producing a wide variety of smells and flavors unique to each strain. Terpenes vary from strain to strain and can also vary depending on various factors.

You can maximize the levels of terpenes in your yield by growing in nutrient-dense soil, having high levels of light exposure, and curing your buds slowly and carefully.

Effects

Headbands has been reported to have the following effects:

  • Euphoria
  • Energizing
  • Creativity

The following adverse effects have also been reported:

  • Headaches
  • Dry Eyes
  • Dry Mouth

Given the high THC contents, HB users may feel “couch-locked,” so it is best consumed when there are no pressing stresses or tasks if you have no experience with this strain. However, many users have also reported more uplifting, stimulating effects with Headband, which is not surprising considering its terpene profile, which is rich in more stimulating terpenes like terpinolene and limonene.

Growing

Headband is surprisingly easy to grow, even for people new to cultivating cannabis. The hardy indica plants are relatively bushy and shorter than the average plant.
The HB plants will thrive with the proper trimming and light conditions. They can even survive temperature changes so that they can be suitable as both indoor and outdoor plants.
However, growers should note that Headband cannabis plants can have an intense aroma, so be sure to have odor regulation measures in place to prevent leaking odors.

Height

HB plants are generally shorter than other strains and quite bushy. Expect plants to grow up to 80 inches tall.

Humidity and Temperature

Humidity is also essential — maintain a humidity level between 50%-70%.

Flowering

To induce flowering, growers need to mimic a seasonal change. To do this, alter the light schedule, so the plants are in darkness for 12 hours and light for 12 hours.
The flowering stage will take around eight to 12 weeks. For HB, this is usually nine to 10 weeks.
When they have reached the harvesting stage, the HB plants will have about 70% of the pistils a reddish/brown color. This is the pistil method.
The trichome method relies on a color change in the trichomes — when they are milky white or cloudy in color, they are ready to harvest. It is best to leave them when they are still transparent until the trichomes change.
