Golden Goat

Golden Goat is a sativa-dominant hybrid marijuana strain comprising 65% sativa and 35% indica with a moderate THC content ranging from 16% to 23%, a low CBD level, and CBG content testing at around 1%. As this strain is predominantly sativa, its effects are described as energetic and uplifting.

This strain was created by a happy accident in Topeka, Kansas, when a female Island Sweet Skunk strain was unintentionally fertilized by a nearby Hawaiian/Romulan hybrid. The result was a potent strain with sweet tropical fruit and citrus flavors and an earthy and spicy aroma. This combination makes for an interesting flavor profile often described as sweet and sour. It’s also known for being pungent and not for the faint of heart.

It’s coined Golden Goat for two reasons. First, for its “golden glow” when the buds are ready for harvest. Second, it was named after the “golden goat recycling machines” smell — a sweet but rancid smell from soda syrups baking in the hot Kansas sun.

Golden Goat marijuana is reported to have both energetic and relaxing effects, mainly because this strain is a blend of both sativa and indica.

Because the Golden Goat strain is sativa dominant, it has prominent energizing effects. But with an indica content of 35%, it also has relaxing and calming effects. Because of this, Golden Goat has been praised for its “balanced” high.

Growing

Golden Goat can be grown indoors and outdoors, but it can sometimes be tricky to grow, so this strain may not suit a beginner. This is a clone-only strain, meaning that you won’t have Golden Goat seeds to help you grow a new plant. Instead, you’ll need a cutting from a mature female plant.

As it’s sativa-dominant, it grows quite tall, towering over 6 feet (1.6 meters), and needs space for its leaves to stretch out, so it often suits an outdoor environment. It first blossomed in Topeka, Kansas, so if you want to grow it outdoors, it must be in a warm, dry climate with plenty of hot sunlight. As this plant is tall and leafy, it must be pruned regularly to train it and promote growth.
This strain can be grown indoors but may yield smaller than those grown outdoors. Plants grown indoors may yield 1.5 ounces per plant, whereas those grown outdoors can yield up to 14 ounces per plant.

Height

Golden Goat plants can grow greater than 78 inches tall or well over 6 feet. This is why they suit an outdoor environment or an ample indoor grow space.

Humidity and Temperature

Unlike most varieties of cannabis, Golden Goat grows best in a dry climate, not a humid one. The ideal temperature range is 72 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit, which is why growing outdoors in a warm and dry climate is favored. If you choose to grow it indoors, your indoor grow space needs to recreate this environment.

Flowering

Like many sativa strains, growing time can be long. If grown indoors, Golden Goat will be ready to harvest in nine to 11 weeks or in late October if grown outdoors.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Golden Goat strain good for?

The Golden Goat is a sativa-dominant strain with THC levels around 20%. This means it has energetic and uplifting effects, which make it suitable for increasing focus and productivity and helping you be more talkative in social situations. People also report that while providing clarity, Golden Goat provides physical relaxation, which helps people to mellow out.

This strain has uplifting and relaxing effects because it combines sativa and indica. Sativa strains are known for their uplifting, stimulating effects, whereas indica strains have relaxing effects. Because of this, Golden Goat is good for both daytime and nighttime use. Like most cannabis strains, this strain has potential therapeutic benefits, so it may be good for managing anxiety, depression, or chronic pain.

Is Golden Goat an indica or a sativa?

Golden Goat is a hybrid strain meaning it’s a blend of both Cannabis sativa and Cannabis indica. The parent plants of Golden Goat are Island Sweet Skunk, a strong sativa, and a Hawaiian/Romulan hybrid where the Hawaiian strain is a strong sativa and the Romulan strain is a strong indica. This blend means the overall composition of the Golden Goat strain is 65% sativa and 35% indica.
