Big Bud

Big Bud was born out of a strategic three-way cross between Afghani, Skunk #1, and Northern Lights strains (cultivars). The plants of Big Bud produce extremely high yields of huge buds with few leaves, which is how it got its name. Due to its high yields, Big Bud has become a popular cultivar to cross with other varieties of cannabis.

The indica to sativa ratio of Big Bud is 85:15 (highly indica dominant). The tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) levels of Big Bud vary significantly, with levels between 15% and 26% and cannabidiol (CBD) levels almost nonexistent at less than 0.2%.

Big Bud induces euphoria and cerebral stimulation, but the body’s high potency also brings a sense of deep relaxation. Most users succumb to “couch-lock” and sedation, and Big Bud’s effects make it potentially very useful for managing chronic pain, anxiety, and insomnia.

Effects

Big Buds has been reported to have the following effects:

  • Cerebral
  • Relaxing
  • Appetite-Inducing
  • Sleepiness

The following adverse effects have also been reported:

  • Dry Eyes
  • Dry Mouth

The effects of Big Bud creep up slowly, but soon enough, the potent cerebral high has you feeling euphoric yet relaxed. Many users also report psychedelic symptoms such as visual distortions and time dilation. It induces a lazy high, which often descends into “couch-lock,” making it perfect for passive activities like watching TV.

Many users become sleepy around an hour after consumption, often with increased appetite. Big Bud is recommended for use in late evenings and nights when relaxing, unwinding, or preparing for bed.

Medical Applications

Big Bud is excellent at providing relief and aid to various ailments or situations. Due to its indica dominance and ability to relax and sedate the body, it is commonly used to help treat chronic pain, fibromyalgia, muscle spasms, and other body aches. The strong sedative effects of Big Bud also make it an excellent strain for anyone battling insomnia or other sleep troubles. However, consuming Big Bud too late at night may lead to users waking up feeling groggy, sluggish, or disoriented the next day. If you can stay awake long enough, Big Bud’s high THC levels are also effective at relieving nausea and increasing your appetite. Due to the extremely low level of CBD in Big Bud, it is not recommended for use by those seeking relief from conditions that respond well to CBD, such as seizures.

Growing

How these plants grow gave way to their name: They’re big with massive buds! Due to its Skunk and Afghani genetics, Big Bud is a highly resistant and versatile plant for outdoor and indoor growers. Its robust support system and thick central stalks quickly grow to 7 feet tall (about 2.1 meters).

Expect Big Bud to yield 25 ounces per outdoor plant and 20 ounces per square meter for indoor plants. If you want to go the extra mile, Big Bud flourishes even further when grown in a hydroponic setup and using Sea of Green growing methods. However, neither of these are necessary for success.
