Gavin Moreland, MD

Gavin Moreland, MD, brings over two decades of medical expertise to his role of Medical Director at Leafwell. He is a leading cannabis care provider and board-certified Emergency Medicine physician who has spent his career on the front lines of healthcare, witnessing firsthand the limitations of traditional medicine and the profound unmet needs of many patients.

Dr. Moreland earned his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Indiana University and his medical degree from Louisiana State University at New Orleans School of Medicine. He completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at Maricopa Integrated Health in Phoenix, AZ, where he honed his skills in high-pressure environments. His commitment to evidence-based care and patient advocacy has been a cornerstone of his medical practice.

In his time as an ER physician, Dr. Moreland observed the gaps in traditional treatments, particularly for chronic pain, mental health disorders, and other conditions where pharmaceutical treatments often fall short. This insight drove his transition into the cannabis space, where he is dedicated to exploring and leveraging the therapeutic potential of cannabis as a safe, effective alternative therapy for diverse medical conditions.

Dr. Moreland joined Leafwell as a certifying physician in 2021 and has since risen to the role of Medical Director, where he oversees clinical operations, ensures compliance, and promotes education on the responsible use of medical cannabis. His unique blend of clinical experience, research involvement, and passion for innovation positions him as a leader in advancing cannabis care to relieve suffering and improve patients’ quality of life.

Beyond his professional pursuits, Dr. Moreland is a long-standing member of the American Medical Association, the American College of Emergency Physicians, and the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine. He continues to advocate for patient-centered care and the integration of alternative therapies into modern medicine.
