Hemorrhoids (aka piles) are swollen veins in your anus and lower rectum. They are similar to varicose veins, and can be internal or external. Internal hemorrhoids are usually painless, but tend to bleed. External hemorrhoids can cause pain. Symptoms of piles include bright red blood after a bowel movement, an itchy anus, and slimy mucus coming from your bottom. Common treatments include ice packs, eating and drinking plenty of water and fiber, avoiding ibuprofen and opioid-based painkillers, and steroid- and non-steroid based creams or suppositories.

Cannabis may help treat hemorrhoids due to its anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving qualities, helping patients feel less discomfort. On top of this, cannabis’s stress-busting, anxiety-easing and sleep-inducing effects can help treat some of the side-effects of hemorrhoids.
