Short answer: Yes. If you already hold an Arkansas registry ID card, you can renew it online with Leafwell, whoever certified you the first time. Arkansas lets physicians recertify by telehealth, so the appointment happens by video. Renewal is two steps: a new physician certification, then the renewal application and $50 state fee in the Department of Health portal. Only first-time patients have to be seen in person.

Can I renew with Leafwell if another doctor certified me?

Yes. Your registry card belongs to you, not to the doctor who signed your first certification. The Arkansas Department of Health requires a new Physician Written Certification every time you renew, and any Arkansas-licensed MD or DO can sign it. You do not have to be an existing Leafwell patient to renew with Leafwell.

The in-person rule only applies to your first certification. Arkansas State Medical Board rules bar a physician from issuing a first-time written certification based on a telemedicine assessment, but the Department of Health confirms that recertification can be completed by telehealth. Once you hold a card, every renewal can be done from home.

There is nothing to transfer or cancel with your previous doctor. A Leafwell physician licensed in Arkansas evaluates you by video, and if you still qualify, issues the new certification you upload to your existing Department of Health account.

How Arkansas medical marijuana card renewal works

An Arkansas renewal has two parts: the physician step, which Leafwell handles online, and the state step, which you complete in your Department of Health account.

StepWhatWhoWhenCost
1. Physician recertificationAn Arkansas-licensed physician evaluates you and signs a new Physician Written Certification on the Department of Health form.Any Arkansas-licensed MD or DO. With Leafwell, by video.Up to 60 days before your card expires. The certification is valid for 30 days from the date it is signed, so apply to the state promptly.Leafwell fee: [PRICE]. No state fee for this step.
2. Renewal application and new cardLog in to your Department of Health account, submit the renewal application with the new certification and a copy of your Arkansas ID, and pay the fee. When approved, you print your card or have one mailed if you choose that option. You, at mmj.adh.arkansas.gov.Within 30 days of the certification being signed. The Department takes up to 14 days to process a renewal from the day it receives the application and payment.$50 non-refundable state fee.

Here is how the two steps run with Leafwell:

  1. Sign in or create an account. Returning Leafwell patients sign in; patients certified elsewhere create an account. Have your Department of Health login ready.
  2. See a physician by video. The appointment is the evaluation: an Arkansas-licensed physician reviews your condition and decides whether you still qualify. To comply with state rules, you may be contacted twice during the recertification process.
  3. Download your new certification. It is dated the day the physician signs it and expires 30 days later.
  4. Submit your renewal to the Department of Health. Log in to your existing account, upload the certification and your ID copy, and pay the $50 fee. Processing takes up to 14 days; incomplete applications are returned and take longer.
  5. Print your card. When the renewal is approved you get an email to log back in and print your card. The Department only mails a physical card if you select that option, and it never emails cards.

When should I renew my Arkansas medical card?

Earliest: 60 days before the expiration date printed on your card. Cards are issued for up to one year, and your physician may set a shorter period, so check the date rather than assuming a full year.

Latest that is safe: about three weeks before expiry. The Department of Health needs up to 14 days to process a renewal, and your certification must reach them within 30 days of being signed. Booking your appointment three to four weeks out leaves room for both clocks.

If your card expires: the legal protection of Amendment 98 expires with it. You can still submit the renewal application, but you cannot buy from a dispensary until the renewal card is issued. Arkansas does not issue temporary cards while an application is processed.

What you need to renew in Arkansas

  • Your Leafwell account — sign in if you have one; otherwise create one before your appointment.
  • Your Department of Health login — the email and password for the account you used to apply at mmj.adh.arkansas.gov. If you have forgotten the password, reset it before your appointment.
  • A copy of your Arkansas driver’s license or state ID — the Department asks for the front of the card on a full sheet of paper, the same as a new application.
  • Payment for the state fee — $50, non-refundable, paid in the portal when you submit.
