It’s Women’s History Month and today we’re looking not at the women who came before but the women who, today, are working to make history in the cannabis industry by being a part of Leafwell. We’re a cutting-edge technology platform, a women-led company, and a fully distributed team working across 11 time zones. It’s time to introduce you to just a few of the women behind Leafwell.

Now let’s get to know a little bit about our team.
As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Emily: a doctor, or rockstar (depending on the day)
Ruth: a vet
Sarah: an OB nurse, like my mom
Diana: a doctor, until my first cadaver class
Shannon: an anthropologist
Judith: a spy or fashion designer
Uschi: an explorer
Ana: a biologist
If you were an animal, what would you be?
Emily: a bird
Ruth: a dog, probably a Jack Russell
Sarah: an eagle
Diana: a spinner dolphin
Shannon: a cat, obviously
Judith: a koala
Uschi: a seal
Ana: a red panda
How do you relax during your time off?
Emily: I love music, dancing, cycling, movement is my medicine. I go on long walks, read and spend time with loved ones.
Ruth: I read a lot. And every day I try to go for long walks in the countryside around my house, usually plugged into a podcast at the same time.
Sarah: A few things I do during my free time include hiking, yoga, reading, and spending time with my partner Jordan.
Diana: Well, that depends on my mood. You can find me hiking, camping, swimming, or surfing if I need an active chill session. On other days, you might find me vibing to beats from around the world, gardening or sipping Kombucha on the beach with my family. On the mainland (aka “the continent”), I am a hot springs fanatic. You can’t keep me away from a good hot & cold plunge in the middle of nowhere, eating a salad!
Shannon: Well, if reading could pay bills, that would be my career. I also love to needlepoint, garden, and turn recycled materials into something beautiful.
Judith: I either read, watch TV, or draw.
Uschi: Running, reading, travelling (when it’s possible again), hanging out with friends, and trying out new veggie recipes!
Ana: Hiking, binge watching tv shows
Quote to live by?
Emily: Thomas Edison in 1903:
“The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patient in the care of the human frame, in diet and in the cause and prevention of disease.”
Ruth: “Be the change you want to see in the world.” – Incorrectly attributed to Gandhi but simply a catchy phrase which implies some of the values of a speech he gave
Sarah: “Realize deeply that the present moment is all you ever have.” – Eckhart Tolle
Diana: “The water is your friend. You don’t have to fight with water, just share the same spirit as the water, and it will help you move.” – Alexander Popov. Translation -> Go with the flow.
Shannon: “Fear is useless. It doesn’t stop bad things from happening. It creates obstacles that were never there in the first place.”
Judith: “Let’s invite one another in. Maybe then we can begin to fear less, to make fewer wrong assumptions, to let go of biases and stereotypes that unnecessarily divide us.” Michelle Obama
Uschi: “Think less, do more!”
Ana: “In nature nothing is created, nothing is lost, everything changes.”
Why do you like working for Leafwell?
Emily: I wake up each morning excited about what we’re building at Leafwell. Health and wellness is a huge passion of mine and I believe we are just scraping the surface as far as understanding how cannabis can be used to optimise your health and wellness.
Through the use of technology, research and education, we are helping people access and explore cannabis, and it’s truly impacting their lives for the better. There is a sense of purpose and responsibility with that, that is shared by every team member at Leafwell.
Ruth: I believe in our company’s mission and ethos. I love hearing from patients about how getting a medical marijuana certificate has been transformative for them. There’s never a dull day at my desk and no two days are the same. Keeping things fresh helps me to not only learn new skills but also ensures I never get bored. And on a day to day basis, I enjoy working closely with team members in all areas of the business as we collaborate to drive Leafwell forwards and onto the next adventure.
Sarah: I like working for Leafwell because I feel that I am spending my time working on something that I care deeply about: helping people have access to medical cannabis and helping them understand it.
Diana: We are helping more and more people every day seek a natural treatment for the many ailments life throws at us all. With each patient, the stigma that has plagued the power of cannabis slowly dissolves. I love being part of a team, ingrained in the cannabis movement, setting global precedence in customer care and education.
Shannon: I have worked for countless companies in my lifetime and I can honestly say that Leafwell is the first one that is actually professional. The people here have so much team spirit and they actually care about the information we provide and the patients we serve; that includes everyone from the ground up, all the way to the CEO. All of the employees are also treated very well and taken care of. For me, all these reasons are why Leafwell is an amazing company that’s worth supporting. I absolutely adore this company, I’m so grateful that I found them, and I cannot wait to see how far we go!
Judith: I like the team and I like that there’s an element of helping people in Leafwell’s mission.
Uschi: The team is amazing, the vision is so clear, and no two days are the same!
Ana: As someone who usually works in a lot of smaller brand websites, it’s nice to be involved in a larger project, and seeing it grow.
