Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is an anxiety-related disorder in which people have excessive thoughts (obsessions) that lead to repetitive behaviors (compulsions). Some examples include excessive cleaning due to fear of germs, or a compulsive need to arrange objects in a specific manner. OCD can occur alongside many other mental health problems such as anxiety, depression, ADD/ADHD, Tourette syndrome or autism.
Cannabis has been shown to be quite effective for treating anxiety, with CBD and low doses of THC, as well as terpenes like linalool, pinene and limonene, working particularly well. In one study, the severity of symptoms was reduced by about half within four hours of smoking cannabis, with a 60% reduction in compulsions, 49% reduction in intrusive or unwanted thoughts, and a 52% reduction in anxiety.
