There are many different kinds of conditions that can cause seizures. Epilepsy is perhaps one of the most well-known and common ones, but they can also occur in those who have spina bifida (improperly developed spine & spinal cord), hydrocephalus (water on the brain), some types of autism, a brain injury, myoclounus, infection or congenital brain defect, drug abuse, or as a result of an electric shock.

There is a good amount of evidence to suggest that high-quality, pharmaceutical grade cannabidiol (CBD) can help treat seizures associated with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and Dravet syndrome. Tetrahydrocannabinolic acid (THCA) may also be useful for treating seizures. This is because CBD and THC may help reduce inflammation of the brain and nervous system, and keep control & maintain sodium & calcium ion channels that are dysregulated and causing misfiring and over-firing signals.

Myoclonus, which is a condition that ranges from the mild and everyday (e.g. hiccups and sudden jerks when you fall asleep) to more severe (i.e. constant hiccups or severe sleep-starts). Cannabis smoke in particular may induce mild myoclonus in some, but in general cannabis seems to help treat more severe forms of seizure, as well as any spasms & spasticity associated with them.

Medical cannabis may also help treat seizures associated with spina bifida and hydrocephalus, where it can treat not only seizures but also the nausea/vomiting, chronic pain and mood disorders that occur alongside the two conditions.
