Strawberry Cough

Strawberry Cough is a sativa-dominant hybrid created by Kyle Kushman that won Best Flower in the 2013 Cannabis Cup. It’s made by crossing Strawberry Fields and an unknown Haze. It is 80% Cannabis sativa and 20% Cannabis indica and has a high THC content, regularly measuring between 20% and 25% THC.

Kushman is credited with creating Joey’s Strain and Cherry Lopez and cultivating Purple Kush, but Strawberry Cough is one of his favorite flavors.

Strawberry Cough is a highly-regarded sativa strain noted for its cerebral, energetic, uplifting effects and sweet, fresh strawberry taste. Due to its effects, Strawberry Cough may be useful for alleviating stress, anxiety, and depression.

Kushman developed Strawberry Cough in California, but one of its parents, Strawberry Fields, is actually an indica from New York. According to legend, this indica was grown next to strawberry fields to mask the odor and started to take on the smell of the strawberries nearby.

Growing

growing strains

As Strawberry Cough is a sativa, expect it to grow rather tall. Those living in hot and tropical climates can grow it outdoors, but those in more temperate climates should opt for a greenhouse for optimal growth of this variety of cannabis. As it is resistant to pests and mold, it is a tolerant cultivar to grow for a sativa. Strawberry Cough is an excellent choice for novice gardeners who want to grow cannabis in a greenhouse and blend the best outdoor and indoor growing.

Strawberry Cough can do well indoors, but its height can prove a problem for some. During the vegetative stage, pruning and topping (cutting off the main stalk of a weed plant to force it to grow bushier) may be necessary to control its growth indoors. Strawberry Cough flourishes best when grown in soil and fed organic nutrients. Expect a yield of around 14 to 15 ounces per square meter.

Height

Strawberry Cough can grow up to 78 inches, or 6.5 feet.

Humidity and Temperature

As with most varieties of cannabis, Strawberry Cough does best at a humidity level of around 50% during the vegetative stage, gradually reducing to 30% during the flowering stage. Ideal temperatures are between 70 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit (21 to 29 degrees Celsius) and between 60 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit (15.5 to 21 degrees Celsius) at night.

Flowering

The flowering time is reasonable for a sativa varietal at nine to 10 weeks. Some plants can take 12, 14, or even 16 weeks to flower.
